Professor Michael C.L. Chau is a Full Professor in Innovation and Information Management at the HKU Business School, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He earned his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona and a B.Sc. in Computer Science (Information Systems) from HKU, where he graduated with First Class Honors. 

Professor Chau’s research spans a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including business analytics, AI applications in fintech and fraud detection, web mining, social media analysis, and smart health technologies. He has published over 150 articles in top-tier journals and conferences, such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering.

Professor Chau has held several key administrative roles at HKU, including Deputy Area Head of Innovation and Information Management and Program Director of the BBA in Information Systems. He also served as Warden of Lee Chi Hung Hall for over a decade.

His service extends to the global academic community. He is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) College of Senior Scholars and has co-chaired major conferences like the Pacific-Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS 2024) and the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2013). Additionally, he is a founding co-chair of the Pacific-Asia Workshop on Intelligence and Security Informatics.

Professor Chau’s scholarly impact has been widely recognized. He received the INFORMS ISS Design Science Award and the IEEE ITSS Leadership Award in Intelligence and Security Informatics in 2020, among others. HKU has honoured him with the Outstanding Young Researcher Award (2014) and the Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award (2013, 2016).
