Improved engagement with industry to promote students' active learning in gaming education

Unit Commended: Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies
Good Practice Recognised: Improved engagement with industry to promote students’ active learning in gaming education
Description: Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies (CJT) has made use of improved industry engagement to build a culture of enhancement. In this environment, CJT has built a coherent support framework, fostered relationship between faculty members and instructors, and offered flexible class attendance and adopted some methods of instruction to promote students’ active learning.
Merits
  1. Through guest lectures, internships, overseas study tours and group projects, students are stimulated to think about what they are learning and to take more responsibility for their own education, rather than cramming much material in a limited time without their real understanding of the content and how it relates to their life.
  2. Faculty members and instructors would update their knowledge and skills through regular workshops, visits to trade shows and exhibitions, and interactions with industry professionals, and nurture their appreciation for the industry.
  3. CJT would be in a better position to define a range of skills that, when added to subject-specific academic and professional skills, develop attributes that result in students’ better job opportunities and enhanced performance in their chosen careers.
