Quality Assurance Workshop on External Examining

Prof. Mark Jones, from University of Brighton in UK, talked about external examining

Prof. Mark Jones, Former Head of Engineering at University of Brighton in UK, conducted two virtual workshops for Macao Polytechnic Institute on external examining on 17th and 18th November, 2020. Prof. Mark Jones talked about the important role of the external examiners in quality assurance and shared about his personal experience working as an external examiner in different higher educational institutes. The workshops attracted numerous school directors, programme co-ordinators and external examiners of different fields to join.
 
Prof. Mark Jones explained about the requirement of external examining regarding the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) of UK. He introduced the role of the external examiner and how the schools can communicate with the external examiners. At the same time, Prof. Mark Jones, who acted as external examiner of Macao Polytechnic Institute and many higher education institutes in UK, shared his working experience. The participated teachers and external examiners exclaimed that the workshop was fruitful. Many teachers and external examiners raised questions during the Q & A section, creating a lively atmosphere.   
 
Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) is the first institute passing the prestige Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) of UK. The teaching quality assurance scheme of MPI is based on the requirement of international higher education. MPI has appointed 20 experts from different fields, from different countries, to act as external examiners who give advice to MPI regarding programme setting, award and examination process. Thus, it continues to improve programmes setting of MPI and ensure all programmes are in accordance to international level and expectations.
