To enhance academic staff's AI literacy and deepen their understanding of the latest university guidelines, the Teaching & Learning Centre organised the "Staff Development Week" in the first semester of 2025/2026 academic year in early December 2025. Prof. Zheng Yafeng, Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Science and Technology at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Beijing Normal University and Associate Professor Song Yue, Acting Deputy Director of the Teaching and Learning Centre, served as keynote speakers. The workshops focused on AI-empowered teaching, guidelines on the use of Generative AI (GenAI), and guidelines for periodic reviews of degree programmes.

Associate Professor Song Yue, Acting Deputy Director of the Teaching and Learning Centre, introduced the University's newly formulated "Guidelines on the Use of GenAI for Academic Staff and Students". The presentation covered the opportunities and risks brought by GenAI, the background, objectives, core principles, examples of use, and important considerations related to the guidelines. It emphasised striking a balance between encouraging innovation and upholding academic integrity. Through establishing a clear regulatory framework and accountability mechanisms, the guidelines aim to assist academic staff and students in using relevant tools safely, compliantly, and efficiently in the AI era.

Prof. Zheng Yafeng, Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Science and Technology at Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Beijing Normal University, pointed out in the workshop that GenAI is a significant driving force for educational innovation, transforming the teacher's role from knowledge transmitter to learning facilitator. The workshop introduced current national policies and developments concerning "AI + Education" and provided a systematic framework and case studies on how university teachers can utilise GenAI for teaching innovation.

Associate Professor Song Yue introduced the university's newly issued "Periodic Programme Review Guidelines for Degree Programmes" to programme management staff from different faculties. She outlined how ongoing monitoring and periodic review of programme can help build a more comprehensive quality assurance framework, ensuring continuous improvement of degree programmes and alignment with international review standards.

The participating staff highly praised the "Staff Development Week," stating that the workshops deepened their understanding of the application of AI in teaching and were very beneficial.
