Wendy Wan-Ki Lee is currently an Associate Professor of Music Composition in the Department of Music and the Associate Dean (Development) of the Graduate School at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She received her Ph.D. in Composition and Theory from the University of Michigan. Prior to CUHK, she has held teaching positions at the Oberlin College and SUNY Binghamton in the United States.

Wendy is the recipient of composition commissions and honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Aspen Music Festival, Banff School of Arts, Chicago Ensemble, Contemporary Record Society, Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, Orford Arts Centre, Renée B. Fisher Composer Award, Fifth New Ariel Piano Composition Competition, and many others. Her music, which appears on several CD labels and publishers, has celebrated numerous international performances by members from major orchestras and top-notch chamber ensembles around the world.

Wendy is an avid advocate of contemporary works with diverse musical interests. At CUHK, she was awarded a Humanities Fellowship to work on an interdisciplinary project that involves music, science, and dance. The highlights of this collaboration were featured on Detroit Public Television. Her scholarly work on music by Chinese-American composers has appeared in several journal articles. Wendy had served on the Committee on Diversity, and the Committee on the Status of Women of the Society for Music Theory (USA); and she was invited as one of the keynote presenters for Composition in Asia Symposium and Festival at the University of South Florida College of the Arts.

Recently, Wendy received the CUHK Faculty of Arts Outstanding Teaching Award in 2021–2022, a CUHK courseware grant for producing micromodules on instrumental extended techniques, and a Strategic Partnership Award for Research Collaboration with the music faculties and students from the University of Toronto in Canada.
