Open Day and Scholarship Award Ceremony Showcase Outstanding Teaching, Research and Talent Cultivation

The Open Day and Scholarship Award Ceremony at MPU in January 2024 drew over 3,000 prospective students, parents, and social elites from home and abroad, demonstrating the achievements of diversified teaching, research, and talent cultivation at MPU in all walks of life.


Diversified and Exciting Activities on Open Day 

The opening ceremony of the Open Day was officiated by distinguished guests, including Xu Zhiping, Deputy Director of the Higher Education Division of the Education and Youth Affairs Department from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Carlos Roberto Xavier, Head of the Department of Tertiary Education of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR government; Dr. Lei Ngan Lin, Acting Rector of MPU; as well as the principals and representatives of 30 secondary schools in Macao. In her speech, Dr. Lei Ngan Lin, Acting Rector highlighted MPU’s interdisciplinary offerings in education in line with the “One Centre, One Platform, One Base” strategy for Sino-Lusophone relations and the economic diversification policy in Macao. Being recognised in teaching and research, MPU has achieved remarkable results, including the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, being the first and only university in Macao to have secured the “National Teaching Achievement Award” twice, and winning the “Asia-Pacific Quality Award” thrice. Looking forward, MPU will continue to leverage disciplinary advantages to promote research and innovation, contributing wisdom to social development.

The Open Day buzzed with captivating activities such as programme presentations, further study advising, campus tours, career planning workshops, and sharing sessions by current students and graduates. These activities enabled guests and students to experience the vibrant learning atmosphere and campus culture of the University from different perspectives, as well as to learn about the advice on choosing their majors and planning their career development in advance. Experiential sessions were organized to deepen students’ understanding of various academic fields. In the information technology session, students experienced state-of-the-art technology for research. In the health sciences domain, students were given simulated demonstrations of medical and nursing operations and were introduced to biomedical knowledge about pharmaceutical extraction, blood typing, blood glucose testing, and skincare products, which aroused students’ interest in and potential for exploration of future technologies.

The sports experiential session demonstrated the University’s strength as the “cradle of champions” through enjoyable sports interactions at the Sports Pavilion. In the “Unveiling Simultaneous Interpretation” session, students experienced the practical application of conference interpreting and explored the mechanisms of perception and cognition of human language. Music ensembles and art tours created an immersive arts and cultural experience to enhance the public’s enjoyment. A participant from secondary school, who had already applied to study at MPU, said that the Open Day enabled them to learn more about the quality education at MPU. He found university life interesting and looked forward to the possibility of joining the MPU community in the upcoming academic year.
