Dr. Sylvia Liu Xihui

Professor Liu is Assistant Dean (Academic Program) and Associate Professor in the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is also the Specialism Leader of the International Master of Innovative Business Design and the Head of the Foundation Year program. Her research interests cover a wide range of areas, including design and business, design and entrepreneurship, design management capability, creative ecosystems and design policy.

In the area of design management, Professor Liu has developed a model for evaluating corporate design competitiveness, which has been adopted by European countries. In the area of business model, she has successfully created business cases such as Shangpin Mansion, leading the transformation of the industry. In the field of design policy, Prof Liu participated in the National Innovative Design Strategy Project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as a principal researcher, and authored Made in China 2025.

Professor Liu has published nearly 100 books and articles, and is the Chairman of the International Design Conference and the initiator of the China University Design Doctoral Forum. Since 2013, she  has been invited to participate in the research on innovative design strategy of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has been involved in the drafting of the Belt and Road Policy, Digital Creative Industries and other related national design policies. She has served as a quality assurance accreditation expert for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.
