A workshop on the use of IBM SPSS 26.0 in survey data analysis was organized by Dr. Jennifer Gao and Prof. W.M To of the Faculty of Business, Macao Polytechnic University. The workshop took place in Room A210 between 19:00 and 22:00 on 17 January 2024. Prof. W.M. To served as the speaker of this workshop with twenty Management students attending this event.

Prof. W.M. To presented how a theoretical model and the associated questionnaire could be developed. He reminded participants that the quality of the analyzed results depends on the quality of the collected survey data. Thus, researchers should pay utmost attention to the data collection procedure and ensure that respondents would understand the impacts of their responses on the survey. Prof. W.M. To showed how variables could be defined in “Variable View” in SPSS and data could be imported from Excel. He and participants checked the statistical properties of the collected data using various functions. They also performed some statistical tests including one-sample t-tests, independent-samples t-tests, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to explore whether respondents’ responses on items were significantly greater than the midpoint and whether demographic variables such as gender, age group, etc. affected responses. Prof. W.M. To then demonstrated how to obtain mean item scores using “Transform - Compute Variable” and performed correlation and regression analyses. During this three-hour workshop, participants obtained valuable hand-on experience in using SPSS.
