This article has garnered significant attention from researchers and stakeholders globally, earning recognition as one of the top viewed pieces in the journal.

Metaverse has emerged as a groundbreaking concept, promising to revolutionize our interaction with the digital world in recent years. This paper reports a recent bibliometric study of the metaverse that provides insightful data on its research trends, themes, and future directions, offering a panoramic view of this rapidly evolving field.
What are the main findings?
Our research revealed a remarkable increase in studies related to the metaverse, as evidenced by data from Scopus, one of the largest academic indexing databases. Out of the 1031 journal articles, reviews, and conference papers found, over 80% were published within the past year. This trend highlights an increasing global interest and investment in understanding and developing metaverse technologies. Additionally, the research identified several potential directions for future research. These include deeper explorations into the integration of advanced technologies like AI and blockchain in the metaverse, further development of immersive and interactive experiences, and the exploration of practical applications in various sectors including education, entertainment, and business.
