FCG Professor Recognized as Among the World’s Top 2% of Scientists for Six Consecutive Years, from 2020 to 2025.

According to the most recent update for the “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” released by the Stanford team on 19 September 2025 (https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/8 ), Professor Wai Ming To from the Faculty of Business has been recognized as one of the top 2% of scientists globally for six consecutive years, spanning from 2020 to 2025, based on citation impact in the single year 2019 – 2024, respectively. Moreover, he has also been acknowledged among the top 2% of scientists in the world based on his career-long citation impact over the past three years.

Recently, Professor Wai Ming To has collaborated with Associate Professor Billy T. W. Yu to explore the utilization of emerging technologies across various fields, including business, management, medical science, information technology, and tourism and hospitality. Their research on the metaverse, titled “Metaverse: Trend, Emerging Themes, and Future Direction” (available at: https://doi.org/10.1002/ett.4912 ), has been recognized as the most viewed article in Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies – a SSCI Journal published by Wiley. Furthermore, their study on artificial intelligence, titled “Artificial Intelligence Research in Tourism and Hospitality Journals: Trends, Emerging Themes, and the Rise of Generative AI” (available at: https://doi.org/10.3390/tourhosp6020063 ), has been ranked among the top three most viewed and cited articles (with over 6800 views and 4 citations; see Figure 1) in the last six months in Tourism and Hospitality – a Scopus Q1 journal by MDPI since April 2025.

With ongoing support from the University, the Faculty of Business, and fellow faculty members, Professor Wai Ming To aims to continue producing high-impact research outputs that encompass various topics related to technology, management, and sustainability.
