PCHA8121 Cultural Heritage Studies 3 45 hrs ---
Through multiple ways such as lectures, studies, communications and discussions, this
module provides students with an overview of the research fields of Cultural Heritage
Studies from different perspectives under the guidance of museology, archaeology, and
theories of cultural construction. It enables students to deconstruct the development
courses of human history and civilization and understand the role of cultural heritage in
national cultural confidence and identity, as well as the value of production and material
and non-material activities in the process of social civilization construction. An in-depth
understanding of cultural heritage can promote students’ critical thinking skills in cultural
heritage protection, and equip them with a forward-looking vision in face of the cultural
hybridity under the background of globalization, so as to make contributes to the
inheritance, protection and revitalization of cultural heritage in a sustainable way.
PCHA8122 Anthropology 3 45 hrs ---
Anthropology is an independent discipline studying human biological and cultural
characteristics. Unique social, political, and economic systems, folklore, and religious
systems have been formed as a result of human beings’ adaptation to diverse
environments in group life which are significant entry points for exploring the diversity
of human civilizations and cultural relativities during different periods. Through lectures,
discussions, studies and academic exchanges, this module enables students to know the
fields involved in anthropological research, and the processes of evolution, integration,
struggle, conflict, mediation or absorption among humans and social systems. It
promotes students to conduct in-depth analyses of cross-cultural and gender-related
phenomena and problems through a comprehensive investigation of literature in various
fields, so they can gain a more extensive understanding of the impact of human behavior
on the development of human society.
PCHA8123 Sino-Western Cultural Exchange 3 45 hrs ---
This module is an introduction to the history of cultural exchange between China and
the West. Through examining the history of cultural connections and interactions
between China and the West from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties, it
aims to reveal the world’s influence on the course of Chinese civilization and China’s
contribution to the development of world civilization. In this module, students will
understand the basic methods and content of the study of the history of cultural
exchange between China and the West, and learn to use archaeological and
documentary evidence to analyze and discuss academic propositions related to cultural
exchange between China and the West.
