temperature; Urinary system; Nervous system; Sense organs.
BSBC1102 Biochemistry 4 60 hrs ---
To equips students with fundamental knowledge of biochemistry and to prepare for the
further study in the medical-related subjects such as immunology and pharmacology.
Contents: The structures, functions, synthetic and metabolic pathways of proteins,
carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids; Enzymes functions and reaction kinetics; The
synthesis, transcription and modifications of deoxyribonucleic acid; Regulations of gene
expression.
BSCB1101 Cell Biology 3 45 hrs ---
To provide students with the background knowledge of traditional cell biology on
organelles structures and functions. Contents: Introduction of the diversity of cells, their
basic constituents and critical functions; Organelles; Plasma membrane and transport;
Signaling; Genetic code and protein synthesis; Endomembrane system and protein
sorting; Mitochondria and cellular energetics; Cytoskeleton and cell motility; Nucleus and
cell cycle.
BSDT1101 Basic Dispensing Techniques I 4 60 hrs ---
To equip students with the knowledge in basic dispensing and compounding techniques.
Contents: Prescription; How to dispense medications according to prescription; Basic
dispensing technique; Introduction to dosage forms; Basic compounding techniques in
different dosage forms, such as solution, emulsion, suspension, powder, capsule, cream,
ointment, suppository and etc.
BSDT1102 Basic Dispensing Techniques II 4 60 hrs ---
To equip students with the knowledge in aseptic dispensing and compounding
techniques, and advanced dispensing and compounding techniques. Contents: Aseptic
dispensing techniques; Cytotoxic reconstitution services; Radiopharmaceutical
reconstitution services; Central intravenous admixing services and total parenteral
nutrition.
BSGB1101 General Biology 3 45 hrs ---
To equip students with the scientific concepts and terminology of important biological
processes. Contents: Introduction; Methods and concepts in biology; Chemical
foundations of cells; Diversity of life; Gas exchange and respiration; Digestion and
metabolism; Endocrine systems; Motor systems; Reproduction and development;
sensory systems; Nervous systems; Circulation and immunity; temperature control and
fluid regulation.
