                            To equip students with theory and practice in how to formulate drugs into appropriate

                            dosage forms in order to achieve the best therapeutic effect, and in different types of
                            dosage  forms  and  their  corresponding  manufacturing  technologies.  Contents:
                            Formulation and manufacturing processes of different dosage forms, including solution,
                            emulsion, suspension, powder, granule, capsule, tablet, controlled-release preparation,
                            cream,  ointment,  suppository,  inhalation,  nasal  preparation,  nano-pharmaceuticals;
                            packaging; quality control, quality assurance and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

                BSPY2101    Pharmacology I                    6       90 hrs    ---
                            To equip students with the pharmacological knowledge of biological effects, mechanism
                            of actions, clinical applications, adverse reactions and contraindications in various classes
                            of  drugs.  Contents:  Drug  principles  related  to  pharmacology,  pharmacodynamics  and
                            pharmacokinetics  of  drugs  acting  on  various  bodily  systems;  Absorption,  distribution,
                            metabolism and excretion; Drug potency, adverse reactions and therapeutic index; Drug
                            classifications; Drugs acting on neurotransmission; Drugs acting on cholinergic system;
                            Drugs  acting  on  adrenergic  system;  Drugs  used  in  general  and  local  anaesthesia;
                            Anxiolytics  and  hypnotics;  Anti-epileptics  drugs;  Anti-parkinson  drugs;  Anti-Alzheimer
                            drugs; Psychotropics and Opiates.

                            To equip students with the pharmacological knowledge of biological effects, mechanism
                            of actions, clinical applications, adverse reactions and contraindications in various classes
                            of  drugs.  Contents:  Cardiovascular  drugs;  Drugs  acting  on  endocrine  systems;  Drugs
                            acting  on  hematological,  respiratory,  and  digestive  systems;  Chemotherapeutics;
                            Antibiotics; Immunosuppressants and immunomodulatory agents, and etc.

                CHIN2121      College Chinese I               2       30 hrs    ---
                            This course is intended to train students in Chinese reading comprehension and literary
                            appreciation,  and  acquaint  them  with  basic  knowledge  and  techniques  of  Chinese
                            practical  writing.  Through  the  development  of  techniques  of  reading,  analyzing  and
                            appreciating Chinese works, students are expected to cultivate aesthetic taste, cultural
                            awareness and humanistic values, as well as the ability to collect material, shape ideas,
                            and think logically in the process of reading and writing.

                            This  course  is  a  continuation  of  "College  Chinese  I"  with  emphasis  on  enhancing

                            students’  knowledge  and  techniques  of  practical  writing  in  Chinese,  as  well  as  their
                            writing ability in general.
                ENGL2101    English III                       3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  increase  students’  exposure  to  different  contexts  of  using  English  for  authentic

                            communicative  purposes  both  in  daily  lives  and  at  work.  The  four  macro-skills  are
                            covered  and  writing  skills  are  to  be  emphasized.  Oral  presentations  are  required  for
                            assessment. Contents: Continuation of English I and II which include expression of likes
                            and  dislikes;  Agreements  and  disagreements;  Talking  about  social  problems  and  offer
                            solutions; Discussing about historic and future events; Describing major life events and
                            regrets about the past, etc.
