To increase students’ exposure to different contexts of using English for authentic
communicative purposes both in daily lives and at work. The four macro-skills are
covered and writing skills are to be emphasized. Oral presentations are required for
assessment. Contents: Continuation of English I and II which include expression of likes
and dislikes; Agreements and disagreements; Talking about social problems and offer
solutions; Discussing about historic and future events; Describing major life events and
regrets about the past, etc.

BSBP3101 Biopharmaceutics 2 30 hrs ---
To introduce students with the concept of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and
excretion (ADME), including different factors that affect various efficacy of drug
treatment, such as formulations and biological factors. This course also introduces the
pharmacological effects of biotechnological products on specific biological cells and
human tissues. Contents: Overview of biopharmaceutics; absorption of oral and
parenteral dosage form; drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion; drug
interactions. Common techniques in molecular biology; Biotechnological products.
BSCM3102 Traditional Chinese Medicine 3 45 hrs ---
To enable students to understand the basic theories, concepts and development profiles
of TCM, and to be familiar with the naming, classification, usage, contraindications,
storage, and adverse reactions of common proprietary Chinese medicine. Basic
diagnostic techniques and clinical applications of TCM are to be covered. Contents:
Overview of TCM; common Chinese herbs; concept of proprietary Chinese medicines;
overview of proprietary Chinese medicines development; naming and classification of
proprietary Chinese medicines; pharmacological effects of proprietary Chinese
medicines; prescriptions and preparations of Chinese medicines; usage, dosage,
contraindications, adverse reactions, storage and quality of TCM; case studies of the
clinical usage of Chinese medicine based on disease groups, including gynecological
diseases, pediatric diseases, surgical diseases, ear, nose and throat diseases. Healthcare
products based on TCM are to be discussed.
BSCP3101 Clinical Pharmacy I 4 60 hrs BSPY2101,

To equip students with the concepts and applications of clinical pharmacy. Based on the
knowledge of pharmacology, students can recognize the relationship of drug effects and
disease management, and have a better understanding of their clinical applications.
Contents: This course systematically introduces clinical pharmacy based on the clinical
treatments and applications of drugs on various diseases, including central nervous
system diseases, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, respiratory diseases,
genitourinary diseases, endocrine diseases and malignant carcinomas.
