                CHIN2124 Chinese Reading IV 3 45 hrs CHIN2123
For non-native speakers of Chinese, the lack of Chinese proficiency and background

information is usually the biggest obstacle when they are reading Chinese texts. This
course, as a continuation of Chinese Reading III, aims to help students cross the reading
barriers to grasp effective reading skills and further enhance their Chinese reading ability
in a comprehensive way through adequate reading training.

                CHIN2125 Chinese Writing I 2 30 hrs ---
Writing is a very practical course. Teaching non-native speakers of Chinese to write in
Chinese has to start with the most basic use of words and expressions and syntactic
rules. This course begins with the exercises on basic sentence patterns such as
declarative, negative, interrogative, rhetorical and imperative sentences. Students are
expected to use the above mentioned sentence patterns to express themselves in
written Chinese and lay a good foundation for Chinese writing.

(declarative, negative, interrogative, rhetorical and imperative), and trains students how
to use more complicated sentence patterns (such as coordinate, adversative,
progressive, hypothetical and conditional) to express themselves in written Chinese in
order to further enhance their proficiency in Chinese writing.
