                CHIN1109    Elementary Chinese I             6        90 hrs   ---
                            This  comprehensive  Chinese  course  aims  to  make  overseas  students  grasp  the  basic
                            knowledge  about  Chinese  phonetics,  vocabulary,  grammar,  characters  and  culture,  by
                            means of exposing them to the basic linguistic materials related to daily conversations
                            and through diversified training of linguistic skills. The students are expected to achieve
                            the ability of communicating in Chinese about topics related to their daily life.

                CHIN1110    Elementary Chinese II            6        90 hrs   CHIN1109
                            This course, as a continuation of Elementary Chinese I, aims to make overseas students

                            further  grasp  their  basic  knowledge  about  Chinese  phonetics,  vocabulary,  grammar,
                            characters  and  culture  by  means  of  exposing  them  to  the  basic  linguistic  materials
                            related to daily conversations and through diversified training of linguistic skills. Upon
                            completion of this course, the students are expected to achieve the abilities of listening,
                            speaking, reading and writing and be able to complete the basic communicative tasks in
                            Chinese related to their life, study and work.

                            The course aims to familiarize students with basic reading skills of different genres of

                            Chinese texts so as to effectively enhance their reading speed and comprehension by
                            means of extensive reading practices.

                            This course, as a continuation of Chinese Reading I, aims to make students further grasp
                            the basic reading skills by means of extensive reading practices.
                CHIN1115    Chinese Skills Practice I        2        30 hrs   ---
                            How to write Chinese characters is a difficult learning point for overseas students. This
                            course  focuses  on  training  students  to  write  Chinese  characters,  while  explaining  the
                            different  methods  of  knowing  Chinese  characters  in  terms  of  pinyin,  etymology  and
                            radicals. The students are expected to know, write and use the basic Chinese characters
                            they have learned.

                            This course, as a continuation of Chinese Skills Practice I, aims to make students know,
                            read,  write  and  use  the  basic  Chinese  characters  by  means  of  extensive  training  on
                            writing  Chinese  characters  and  explaining  the  knowledge  about  Chinese  characters  in
                            terms of etymology, components and radicals.

                CHIN1119    Listening and Speaking of Elementary  4   60 hrs   ---
                            Chinese I
                            This linguistic skills oriented course cultivates students’ proficiency of Mandarin Chinese

                            in listening and speaking, aiming to help them grasp the basic rules of Chinese listening
                            and  speaking  by  means  of  various  practices  and  explanations  of  the  rules  regarding
                            pronunciation,  syllables,  listening  and  speaking.  Students  are  expected  to  effectively
                            complete communicative tasks related to their daily life in standard Mandarin Chinese.
