                            To provide students with a comprehensive overview of aphasia. Contents: Topics include
                            the etiology, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of aphasia.

                STAR3102      Aural Rehabilitation            3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  develop  students’  ability  to  formulate  a  comprehensive  and  individualized
                            rehabilitation plan for  patients  with a diagnosis of hearing disorders. Contents: Topics
                            include  introduction  and  evaluation  of  listening  devices  and  related  technology,
                            communication  strategies  and  conversational  styles,  acoustic  phonetics,  speech
                            perception in patients with hearing disorders, and aural rehabilitation for adults, older
                            adults, infants, toddlers and school-age children.
                STAU3102      Seminar on Autism               2       30 hrs    ---

                            To  equip  students  with  the  knowledge  of  autism  and  the  skills  for  teaching  and
                            counseling  patients  with  autism.  Contents:  Topics  include  autistic  traits,  relevant
                            theories,  diagnosis  and  assessment  of  autism,  as  well  as  strategies  for  teaching  and
                            counseling patients with autism.

                STCL3102      Communicative   Disorders
                            Craniofacial  Deficits:  Cleft  Lip  and/or
                            Palate

                            To introduce students to cleft lip and palate, as well as other problems associated with
                            craniofacial  anomalies;  to  introduce  students  to  the  roles  of  speech  therapists  in  a
                            craniofacial team. Contents: Topics include craniofacial anatomy and physiology, etiology
                            and pathogenesis of cleft lip and palate and other problems associated with craniofacial
                            anomalies. This course also covers assessment and treatment of craniofacial syndromes.
                STCS3102      Case Studies of Speech and Language  2   30 hrs   ---
                            Disorders

                            To  equip  students  with  the  clinical  knowledge  and  skills  necessary  for  their  future
                            practice.  Contents:  This  course  is  in  conjunction  with  Practicum  in  Speech-Language
                            Pathology. Clinical preceptors will discuss patient cases with students in order to provide
                            appropriate speech therapy services.
                STEA3101      Evaluation and Assessment of Speech  3   45 hrs   ---
                            and Language Disorders

                            To  provide  students  with  an  overview  of  different  assessment  methods  of  speech-

                            language  disorders.  Contents:  This  course  focuses  on  assessment  procedures,  which
                            include  obtaining,  evaluating  and  reporting  pre-assessment  information,  interviewing
                            patients, and use of relevant assessment  tools. Students will learn how to assess and
                            evaluate  various  speech-language  disorders,  including  articulation  and  phonological
                            disorders, child language disorders, and communication disorders in special populations,
                            etc.
