                            Fundamentals
                            This course introduces students to the fundamental ideas about the contemporary roles
                            of computers. Equipped with computer knowledge, students will learn how to face the
                            challenges of rapidly changing information technology in the workplace. The aim is to
                            enable students to understand how computers are integrated into our social and working
                            environments. Contents: Emphasis is placed on how to use computer technology as a
                            tool to enhance productivity. Topics include basic concepts of software and hardware,
                            theories behind computer operation, and some simple applications.
                MAND1100    Putonghua Communication           3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  develop  and  promote  students’  ability  to  communicate  effectively  in  Putonghua.
                            Contents:  This  subject  meets  specific  needs  of  Cantonese-speaking  students  to  learn
                            Putonghua. Students will learn the linguistic principles, rules and skills of communication
                            in Putonghua.
                PSYC1110      General Psychology              3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  introduce  students  to  the  major  concepts  and  theories  of  psychology;  to  equip
                            students with the basic understanding of psychology. Contents: Topics include the brain
                            and nervous system, perception, consciousness, learning, memory, thinking, intelligence,
                            social psychology, motivation, emotion, personality, abnormal psychology, psychotherapy
                            and health psychology, etc.
                PSYC1120      Developmental Psychology        2       30 hrs    ---
                            To provide a broad introduction to the major areas of interest in child development and
                            the  relevant  research  practices;  to  equip  students  with  the  basic  understanding  of
                            developmental  psychology.  Contents:  This  course  covers  the  topics  related  to  the
                            physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, emotional, personality, social, and moral aspects
                            of development.
                SOCI1110      Introduction to Sociology       2       30 hrs    ---
                            To  introduce  students  to  the  scientific  study  of  social  interactions  and  relationships.
                            Contents:  This  course  concentrates  on  the  study  of  the  main  concepts  used  in  the
                            analysis  of  basic  structures  and  social  institutions.  Topics  include  culture  and
                            socialization, groups and organizations, deviance and  social control, social institutions,
                            social stratification and inequality, globalization and social change, etc.

                STAN1102      Anatomy For Speech and Language       3   45 hrs   ---
                            To equip students with the knowledge of anatomical structures for speech, swallowing
                            and  hearing,  which  is  necessary  for  future  coursework  related  to  communication
                            sciences and disorders. Contents: This course covers the nature of communication and
                            swallowing,  with  emphasis  on  the  anatomy  and  physiology  of  respiration,  phonation,
                            resonance, articulation, and hearing.
