                            To develop and promote students’ English communication  skills. Contents: The course
                            consists  of  extensive  exercises  and  training  on  spoken  communication  and  listening
                            comprehension.  Special  emphasis  is  placed  on  conversation  related  to  health  care
                            practice.

                STEN1101      Medical English (I)             3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  develop  students’  English  reading,  writing  and  speaking  abilities  required  in  health
                            care  settings.  Contents:  This  course  is  the  first  part  of  medical  English  education.
                            Emphasis  is  placed  on  the  use  of  medical  terminology.  Students  will  learn  common
                            medical  terms  related  to  body  structures,  diseases,  and  treatments.  They  will  also
                            receive  extensive  training  on  understanding  spoken  and  written  English  medical
                            information,  as  well  as  writing  brief  medical  reports.  It  will  prepare  students  to
                            communicate with patients and health care team members in English in clinical practice.
                STEN1102      Medical English (II)            3       45 hrs    ---
                            To  develop  students’  English  reading,  writing  and  speaking  abilities  required  in  health
                            care  settings.  Contents:  This  course  is  the  second  part  of  medical  English  education.

                            To  introduce  students  to  the  scientific  principles  and  concepts  of  biology.  Contents:
                            Topics include the chemical basis of life, life and classification, cell components and their
                            functions, as well as various structures and functions of organisms, etc. Students will also
                            learn the basic operation in laboratory and will perform experiments to improve their
                            understanding of different scientific concepts.
                STID1102      Introduction to Language and Speech  3   45 hrs   ---
                            Disorders
                            To  introduce  students  to  the  basic  knowledge  of  speech  pathology  and  audiology.
                            Contents:  Topics  include  typical  and  disordered  communication,  childhood  language
                            impairment, articulation disorders, adult language impairment, fluency disorders, voice
                            disorders,  neurological  communication  disorders,  swallowing  disorders,  audiology  and
                            hearing loss, and augmentative and alternative communication.
                STIS1101      Introduction  to  Speech  and  Hearing  3   45 hrs   ---
                            Sciences
                            To  introduce  students  to  the  basic  principles  and  applications  of  speech  and  hearing
                            sciences. Contents: This course covers the topics related to the nature of sound, basic
                            signal and system theory, introduction to speech and hearing sciences including anatomy,
                            physiology,  acoustics,  instrumentation,  as  well  as  methods  and  tools  for  speech  and
                            hearing research.
