                 PORT1123    Portuguese – Introduction to Reading  7   105 hrs   ---
                             and Writing
                             This module  intends to develop the  students' comprehension and written expression

                             skills in Portuguese by working with short and straightforward texts on a variety of topics
                             related to day-to-day situations: personal details and descriptions, daily life, commerce
                             and services, travel, etc. It also covers some fundamental and useful reading and writing
                             techniques in order to facilitate the students’ learning process. In this module, texts about
                             different  cultures  of  the  Lusophone  world  are  also  analyzed,  so  that  students  could
                             acquire  and  deepen  their  knowledge  of  Portugal  and  other  Portuguese-speaking
                             countries.
                 PORT1124    Portuguese – Reading and Writing   7      105 hrs   ---
                             This module is aimed at continuously developing students' reading and writing skills by

                             exposing them to a series of relatively longer and more complex texts, but still on topics
                             linked  to  social  and  everyday  scenarios.  This  module  will  also  target  on  linguistic
                             knowledge related to interpersonal communication and to the cultures of the Lusophone
                             world, so that students can use the Portuguese language in social contexts with greater
                             independence and autonomy.
                 PORT1125    Portuguese   –   Introduction   to  3     45 hrs    ---
                             Grammar
                             This module introduces the basic linguistic structures and grammar rules of European

                             Portuguese,  namely,  word  classes,  nominal,  adjectival  and  verbal  inflections,  the
                             constituent parts of a sentence, etc. This module also aims at providing students with the
                             necessary  lexical  and  syntactic  knowledge  so  that  they  are  able  to  understand  and
                             produce plain sentences in daily life.
                 PORT1126    Portuguese – Grammar              3       45 hrs    ---

                             This module aims to further develop students' ability to identify and analyze grammatical
                             issues  related  to  the  Portuguese  language.  Students  will  be  introduced  to  common
                             grammatical  structures  such  as  agreement,  appropriate  usage  of  verb  tenses  and
                             adverbial  expressions  of  time.  It  is  intended  that  students  will  obtain  a  linguistic
                             repertoire consisting of very frequent words about personal information, specific needs
                             and common life situations.
                 PORT1127    Portuguese – Oral Communication   6       90 hrs    ---
                             The aim of this module is to work on and develop the students' language skills in listening
                             and speaking. The content of this module covers a range of topics linked to day-to-day
                             communicative  situations,  such  as  personal  presentation  and  characterization,  daily
                             routines, family, health, occupations and workplaces, etc., providing learners with skills
                             to  establish  basic  social  contacts  and  to  interact  in  a  natural  way  in  different  social
                             circumstances.
