Since its inception in 2020, the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence has made significant stride. The Centre has successfully met its development goals and passed the Ministry of Education’s acceptance inspection, marking a major milestone at MPU in academic development and technological innovation.
Recognitions from the Expert Panel
Comprising experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, renowned universities, and the industries, the evaluation panel from the Ministry of Education visited the Centre to review its operation and research platforms. They recognised the Centre’s remarkable performance, highlighting its clear focus and well-defined goals as well as its success in scientific research, talent development, and community services. The panel unanimously agreed to pass the acceptance.
The experts emphasised the socio-economic values of the Centre’s research outputs in machine translation and AI applications. They look forward to its continuing to drive technological innovation and educational development in support of Macao’s socio-economic development and national needs. The panel further stressed the importance of the Centre’s provision of technological support and language services to the development of Macao as a Sino-Lusophone Platform and of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Professor Im Sio Kei, Rector of MPU and head of the Centre, expressed gratitude for the support from the Macao SAR government and the Ministry of Education. He noted that the Centre will continue to focus on national strategic needs and global technological trends and enhance its capabilities in research and development, technology transfer, and innovative talent cultivation.
The successful acceptance of the Centre is a significant milestone for the University in technological innovation and reflects Macao SAR’s active integration into the national development framework. Through the Centre, MPU will continue to leverage its strengths in AI and language technology, contributing to Macao’s economic diversification and the country’s technological progress.
