To foster innovation and strengthen academic collaboration between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, MPU co-organised the 14th Higher Education Management Forum with the Portuguese-speaking Higher Education Forum (FORGES). This prestigious event brought together nearly 200 experts and scholars from 8 Portuguese-speaking countries and regions to discuss developments and future trends in higher education.
Innovation and the Future of Higher Education
The forum, themed “Innovative Development in Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions,” served as a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and academic exchange, reinforcing the ties between China and the Portuguese-speaking world. Held in a hybrid mode, the event received enthusiastic participation from leading scholars and experts in the field of higher education management, with nearly 120 academic papers submitted for discussion.
The forum featured 24 specialised panel sessions covering a wide range of topics, including innovation and inclusivity, sustainable development in higher education, teaching and research, higher education accessibility and internationalisation, labour markets and education, policy management and quality assurance, and the evolving landscape of higher education amid geopolitical and social changes. These discussions addressed pressing issues in global higher education through deeper exchange and collaboration.
As an incubator for Sino-Lusophone bilingual talent, MPU has established a comprehensive education system spanning bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes. The University actively supports Macao’s role as a Sino-Lusophone platform and a training base for bilingual professionals. With remarkable research achievements on Portuguese-speaking countries and Sino-Lusophone relations, MPU’s hosting this forum for the third time reaffirms its pivotal role in advancing Sino-Portuguese academic cooperation.
Building Consensus for Shared Prosperity
The forum’s opening ceremony was officiated by distinguished guests, including Teng Sio Hong, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao SAR government; Alexandre Leitão, Consul General of Portugal in Macao; Agostinho João António dos Santos, Acting Consul General of Angola in Macao; Aurélio de Jesus Chiconela, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Consulate General of Mozambique in Macao; Professor Im Sio Kei, MPU Rector; Professor Margarida Mano, FORGES President; and Conceição Rego, FORGES Executive Committee Member.
