                            Supervisors will explain the academic norms, techniques, requirements, detailed rules,
                            choices  of  topics  and  the  scope  regarding  thesis  writing.  With  the  help  of  their
                            supervisors,  students  are  required  to  write  independently  a  research  paper  or
                            investigation report of a certain academic value about the Chinese/ Portuguese/ English
                            language, literature and culture in Chinese with not less than 8,000 words.

                            Writing
                            This course is designed to provide students with effective help for their thesis writing.

                            The  instructor  of  this  course  will  help  students  with  topic  selection,  data  collection,
                            structures  of  argumentation,  language  expression  and  catalogue  indexing  through
                            explanation  and  demonstration.  The  students  will  be  able  to  widen  their  thoughts,
                            improve their thinking methods and comprehensively enhance their competence. They
                            are  expected  to  make  comprehensive  use  of  the  basic  theories  and  professional
                            knowledge to analyze and solve problems independently.

                            Literature
                            Comparative literature is an academic field focusing on cross-national, cross-linguistic,

                            cross-cultural  and  cross-disciplinary  study.  This  course  introduces  the  history  and  the
                            present situation of international and national comparative literature, and teaches the
                            definition, theories and methods of comparative literature with particular emphasis laid
                            upon the actual applications of comparative literature studies. Students are instructed
                            to look at the special values of national literature with the reference of other cultures
                            through  comparisons  between  Chinese  literary  works  and  western  ones.  They  are
                            expected to grasp the basic rules of literature from the global perspective, accept, sort
                            out and evaluate the common literary heritage of mankind.
                CHIN4125    Communication in Chinese I        3       45 hrs   ---

                            This course teaches the basic concepts and theories of communication in Chinese, and
                            the relationship between language and communication, including the brief history, the
                            process,  signals,  communication  and  psychology,  the  barriers  in  communication  and
                            how to clear them, and the characteristics of Chinese communication in Macao.

                            This  course  is  a  continuation  of  Communication  in  Chinese  I.  It  aims  to  familiarize
                            students  with  the  techniques  of  oral  and  written  communication  in  Chinese  through
                            extensive training on aspects such as speech, debate, interview, dialogue and hosting, so
                            as to further enhance their comprehensive ability of expression.

                TRAN4118    Portuguese-Chinese Translation    2       30 hrs   ---
                            This  course  introduces  different  translation  theories  and  approaches.  Students  are
                            required to translate Portuguese texts of various genres into Chinese and study related
                            cultural  and  rhetorical  issues.  Upon  completion  of  this  course,  students  will  better
                            understand the characteristics of Portuguese-Chinese translation with their translation
                            ability enhanced.
