                            This  course  introduces  different  translation  theories  and  approaches.  Students  are

                            required to translate Chinese texts of various genres into Portuguese and study related
                            cultural  and  rhetorical  issues.  Upon  completion  of  this  course,  students  will  better
                            understand the characteristics of Chinese-Portuguese translation with their translation
                            ability enhanced.

                TRAN4120    English-Chinese Translation       2       30 hrs   ---
                            This  course  aims  to  familiarize  students  with  the  basic  concepts  of  and  various
                            approaches  to  translation,  with  special  emphasis  laid  upon  techniques  of  translating
                            from English into Chinese. Students are exposed to extensive translation practices and
                            in-depth discussions on translated texts of different genres, in order to further develop
                            their  practical  translation  skills,  and  to  enhance  their  perception  of  the  nature  of
                            translation.  Students  are  also  encouraged  to  find  various  solutions  to  problems
                            encountered  in  the  process  of  translation.  This  course  prepares  students  for  more
                            specialized translation courses.

                            This course aims to familiarize students with the basic techniques of translating from
                            Chinese  into  English.  Students  are  exposed  to  extensive  translation  practices  and  in-

                            their practical translation techniques, and to enhance their perception of the nature of
                            translation.  Students  are  also  encouraged  to  find  various  solutions  to  problems
                            encountered  in  the  process  of  translation.  This  course  prepares  students  for  more
                            specialized translation courses.

                            Technology
                            This course aims to help students understand the role of computer technology in the
                            modern world and grasp the practical computer knowledge and skills in order to better
                            adapt themselves to the fast changing information technology and achieve the ability to
                            face the challenges in the future. The students will learn various applied software and
                            strengthen their understanding of theories on computer technology. The contents to be
                            covered  in  this  course  include  the  applications  of  word  processing,  spreadsheet,
                            Powerpoint and web browser.

                            This course aims to provide an introduction to the analyses of English grammar at the

                            word,  sentence  and  discourse  levels.  Upon  completion  of  the  course,  students  are
                            expected to understand the basic knowledge about traditional grammar and concepts
                            like ‘correctness’ and ‘Standard English’, and apply this knowledge to their learning of
                            English, thus laying a foundation for further improvement of their English proficiency.
