CHIN4118 Appreciation of Films and Videos 2 30 hrs ---
This course selects famous national and international films and TV programs for
students to understand the history of the development of film-video arts and form an
initial idea about the methods of artistic expressions of image language. They are
expected to learn to analyze image works from different dimensions such as society,
literature and arts, and comprehend and understand the present visual culture to
enhance their quality for visual culture. This course will lay a good foundation for the
students to take part in the creation and development of film and TV industry and other
related industries.

CHIN4119 Language Fieldwork 2 60 hrs ---
Students who haven't taken Teaching Fieldwork I and II are required to complete
language fieldwork of 60 hours in Year 4, such as secretarial work, translation, teaching
and guided tour service, and write a report with not less than 2,000 Chinese words to
summarize the fieldwork and demonstrate the learning results.
CHIN4120 Administrative Documents Writing 2 30 hrs ---
This course introduces the concepts, categories and rules of public administrative
documents and the position of such documents in applied documents. Particular
emphasis is laid upon how to write documents such as proposals, reports, internal
notices, public letters, research reports and opinions.
CHIN4122 Seminars on Language and Culture 2 30 hrs ---
This course consists of two parts: a professional instructor's teaching and students'
attending academic seminars related to this program. The topics mainly focus on the
relationship between language and culture. It will help students look at the deep
reasons for language changes from a wider cultural perspective, and discuss the
linguistic phenomenon and issues that interact with some factors such as politics,
economy, society, history, mass media and fashion.
ENGL4100 History of English 2 30 hrs ---
This course introduces students to the stages of changes of the English language from its
Indo-European and Germanic origins to the modern-day dialects found around the
world. It takes students through the major periods in history and the influences of
language changes that occurred with the mix of different groups of people. It also
attempts to provide reasons for the changes in grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary
of the English language from its beginning to modern times, tracing the history of
English in the words we use, the literature we read, and the everyday life that the
English-speaking people lead.
ENGL4103 Theories and Applications of English 2 30 hrs ---
Proficiency Test
IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) is one of the most
authoritative English language proficiency tests today. This course aims to help students
better understand various question types and cultivate their ability to answer questions
more effectively across the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and
writing. Through guided practices and feedback, students are expected to grow
confidence and develop strategies in taking IELTS.
