MPU and Galaxy Macau Collaborate to Promote Development of Art and Creative Culture

To promote the exchange and integration of Macao's historical culture and art, and to foster the diverse development of Macao's art and creative culture, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and GalaxyArt of Galaxy Macau has held  “The Scrolls of Stars - MPU Art Exhibition” as well as a visit to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Revitalization Project.  Through diverse educational and practical activities, the initiative aimed  to deepen university students' artistic literacy and social insight, while strengthening the synergistic effects of the “tourism + culture” model.

“The Scrolls of Stars - MPU Art Exhibition” was held at GalaxyArt of Galaxy Macau,  displaying the artworks of teachers, alumni and students of the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts Programme and Media Arts Programmes, Faculty of Arts and Design of MPU. During the exhibition period, more than 6,000 local residents and tourists from around the world visited the exhibition, fully demonstrating the deeply cultivating art education achievements of MPU.  A series of theme art workshops were held, with MPU teachers and students guiding participants in their creative endeavours and helping them enjoy the fun of art and design.  Through the cooperation with exhibition curators from international galleries, the students could further understand the operational mode and market demand of the art industry and accumulate valuable experience for their future career development.

Additionally, Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of MPU teachers and students visited the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Revitalization Project jointly promoted by Galaxy Entertainment Group and the Macao SAR Government to explore the craftsmanship and history of local shipbuilding.  As a relatively well-preserved site of the shipbuilding industry in Macao, the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards area has been revitalized with a blend of technological, cultural and leisure elements, and a new virtual experience called “Old Shipyard Space Tour” has been added to allow students to experience the original appearance of the shipyards and gain a deeper understanding of the shipbuilding process and its historical  development  through the immersive usage of digital technology.  After the visit, the students created a series of public art works inspired by Lai Chi Vun Shipyards and presented to reflect on the relationship among local interpretation, artistic expression and spatial transformation in the class, to thus enhance narrative public art practical abilities in the class, they can consider the relationship between local interpretation, artistic expression, and spatial transformation, and improve abilities in practicing narrative public art.

The MPU FAD Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts programme is committed to promoting diverse teaching models. The Academy organizes field trips, industry collaborations, and creative practices to enable students to gain a deep understanding of Macao's social culture and artistic ecosystem. The faculty will continue to host diverse learning activities that integrate theory with practice, helping students develop their individual artistic qualities and become visual arts professionals with creativity, teaching skills, and industry adaptability, thereby injecting new momentum into the cultural and artistic development of Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
