MPU FAD Holds “The Origin of Oriental Colours and Design for Rejuvenation” Seminar
The Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held “The Origin of Oriental Colours and Design for Rejuvenation” Seminar, and invited Prof. Cheng Zhaohui, Party Secretary and Vice Dean, School of Design & Innovation, China Academy of Art. She introduced the deep integration of Eastern aesthetics and contemporary design, allowing students to understand the cultural foundations of Eastern colours as well as their transformation in modern design, and expanded their international perspective and academic view of artistic creation.
The seminar focused on the theme of “Research on Eastern Colours and Lifestyle,” exploring the cultural connotations and contemporary expressions of Eastern colours from three perspectives: culture, design, and aesthetics. Prof. Cheng Zhaohui articulated the philosophy of “seeing China through colour, building brands through colour, preserving culture through colour, and creating styles through colour,” elucidating the distinctive characteristics and paradigms of Eastern colour aesthetics. The innovative design of Eastern lifestyles was deeply rooted in Chinese sentiment, using colour to depict the document, and illustrating China's unique philosophy of time. Through the analysis of classic design cases such as the “Dunhuang Murals,” Prof. Cheng examined how the integration of form and colour evoked resonance with traditional culture and contemplated how to achieve innovative transformation and application of colour in contemporary design.
Prof. Cheng Zhaohui is dedicated to design education and interdisciplinary research, actively responding to the challenges and demands of new liberal arts development, and promoting smart design and diversified collaborative development. She has accumulated rich experience in design research and won many provincial and national design discipline awards. She has published many publications related to design disciplines and achieved fruitful results.
