MPU Students Win Gold Medals in “IYMMC Vienna International Young Musicians Competition”

The preliminary round of the “2025 IYMMC Vienna International Young Musicians Competition” was recently held in Macao. Students Wu Shuangrong, Liao Beijia, Zong Xiaohuan, and Cai Shiyi from the Bachelor of Arts in Music, Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD), at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) performed exceptionally well in the “Classical Vocal Open Category,” receiving gold medals. Liao Beijia continued her outstanding performance and represented Macao at the Asian finals of the competition. With her consistent performance and stage experience, she won the "Highest Award (Second Place)," bringing honour to Macao and Macao Polytechnic University.

The “2025 IYMMC Vienna International Young Musicians Competition” is a highly anticipated music event, hosted by Hong Kong's First Education Group, the Universal Academy of Performing Arts, and Vienna’s MusikQuartier, lasting six days and attracting over 800 competitors from around the world. The competition advisory and final judging team consisted of renowned music professors from Vienna, Europe and the international music scene. The competition aims to enable students to step onto the international stage, provide music enthusiasts with professional and high-quality musical exchange and learning opportunities, broaden their artistic horizons, discover emerging musical talent, and offer an international platform for further study.

The students who have received the awards expressed their gratitude to the Macao SAR government for providing them with the opportunity to enter the international arena and to MPU for its nurturing efforts. They look forward to participating in more diverse music competitions and striving to achieve greater international accolades for Macao and MPU in the future.

MPU is the only institution of higher learning in Macao that currently offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music, and has two majors: “Music Education” and “Music Performance”. It is committed to cultivating students to become outstanding talents with music performance skills, music education practice and research capabilities. In addition, the programmes solidify students’ performance skills, expand their diverse musical abilities, and cultivate their adaptability, thinking and creativity in a comprehensive education of music theory and practice.
