MPU Students and Graduates Win One Gold, Three Silvers and One Bronze Medal in the Wushu Asian Cup

MPU students triumphed at the 1st Wushu Taolu Asian Cup and the 2nd Wushu Sanda Asian Cup: 1 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze

The 1st Wushu Taolu Asian Cup and the 2nd Wushu Sanda Asian Cup were held in Songyuan City, Jilin Province. These prestigious competitions brought together hundreds of athletes from 20 countries and regions across Asia to contend for multiple honours, marking the events as key milestones in the region’s martial arts calendar. Students and graduates of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) delivered outstanding performances, shining brilliantly on the international stage. Their achievements included one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal, earned across various categories: Women’s Jianshu, Men’s and Women’s Changquan, Men’s Jianshu, and Women’s Sanda (60 kg category) — bringing pride and glory to both Macao and the university.

Marcus Im, Rector of MPU, extended his heartfelt congratulations on this impressive achievement. He highly praised the students for their professionalism and fighting spirit displayed during the competition. Their outstanding performances perfectly embody the university’s commitment to embracing challenges, pursuing breakthroughs, and fostering holistic development — serving as a shining example for young people in Macao.

Wong Weng Ian, student of Bachelor of Physical Education Programme, claimed the first gold medal for Macao in the Women’s Jianshu. Kuong Chi Hin, student of Bachelor of Physical Education Programme, earned two silver medals in the Men’s Changquan and Men’s Jianshu categories. Sou Cho Man, a graduate of the Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education programme, secured a silver medal in the Women’s Changquan. Meanwhile, Bachelor of Science in Nursing student Chu Man Sin triumphed with a bronze medal in the Women’s Sanda 60 kg category.

Wong Weng Ian expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Macao SAR Government, the Wushu General Association of Macau, and MPU for their unwavering support. She acknowledged the excellent learning environment and the valuable opportunities provided to participate in international competitions, which allowed student-athletes to continuously enhance their skills, showcase their best performances, and achieve remarkable results on the global stage.
