Macao Polytechnic University held the opening ceremony of the 2023/2024 academic year in August 2023 to launch a new study journey with 2,200 new students from Macao, the Greater Bay Area, all over the country, as well as Portuguese-speaking countries, and regions overseas. Flag-raising was held and the national anthem were sung at the opening ceremony. Rector Im Sio Kei expressed his wishes to the freshmen to inherit the spirit of love for the motherland and for Macao, to be the pioneers of the new era, and to contribute wisdom and strength to the development of the country and Macao.
At the ceremony, Rector Im gave the freshmen their first university lecture at MPU, introducing the history, characteristics and academic achievements of the University. He encouraged the freshmen to set their ambitions in the new academic year, to inherit the spirit of being patriotic and love for Macao, to forge ahead and be brave to be the pioneers of the new era. Rector Im encouraged the freshmen to stay humble and study hard, broaden their horizons and equip themselves throughout every opportunities and challenges encountered during their course of study and of growth, getting ready to take part in the development of the country and Macao for a better future.
As the new academic year commences, the campus buzzes with invigorating energy in anticipation of the upcoming semester. The orientation series titled “Be Young, Be Ingenious” acquaints incoming students with a myriad of facets, including student development, academic support, smart campus features, and facility services, all aimed at fostering students’ holistic development and well-being and aiding them in uncovering their interests and talents.
The orientation activities encompass a flag-raising ceremony, student activity recruitment day, soul recharge station, unity and collaboration activities, career planning seminars, charitable partnership programmes, service learning programmes, etc. In collaboration with various governmental departments, a crime prevention week was also organised to instil in students a sense of responsibility towards home and country. The comprehensive series of activities aim to nurture students’ all-rounded abilities, augment their personal moral character, and cultivate a harmonious atmosphere within the campus and the wider community.
