MPU AS ONE OF THE EIGHT FINALISTS IN THE TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION AWARDS ASIA

At the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia, Macao Polytechnic University was shortlisted amongst the top eight in the category of “Excellence and Innovation in the Arts” for the project “Sensory Ethnography in Arts Programme: A Journey of Experimenters in Promoting Cultural and Creative Arts through Media Technology”. Completed by a team from the Faculty of Arts and Design at MPU, this project seamlessly incorporates sensory ethnography into art education. It operates as an interdisciplinary learning platform that fosters the uniqueness and innovativeness of art education in Macao, a place where Chinese culture is predominant and yet coexists harmoniously with a multitude of other cultures.

Utilising learning platforms such as lectures, experimental practices, and exhibitions, teachers and students from the Faculty of Arts and Design have successfully converted artistic experiences and media technology into 13 experimental projects. These projects celebrate the diversity and creativity of Macao’s culture, further enhancing the city’s unique characteristics. The project has garnered positive feedback from secondary schools, industry professionals, and various societal sectors in Macao. This teaching and learning approach facilitates the sustainable development of cultural, creative, and artistic endeavours.

THE Awards, established in 2005 and hailed as the “Oscars of Higher Education”, was first introduced in Asia in 2019. The award recognises excellence in various aspects of higher education. MPU, along with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Singapore Management University, was shortlisted as one of the top eight finalists for its pioneering work in promoting arts.
