Go To Macao Polytechnic University

Dean's Message

Though the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is a newly established academic unit at Macao Polytechnic University, our research centres (Socioeconomic and Public Policy Research Centre, Chinese and Western Culture Research Centre) and our programmes (Bachelor's Degrees in Public Administration, Social Work; Doctoral programme in Public Policy) have been well-established with a long historical background, based on a solid foundation and developmental trajectories.

Our academic programmes strive to cultivate talents in administrative management and professional social workers who can adapt to the rising social needs of the community with a creative mind. We strongly encourage our students to maintain their curiosity and rationality rather than just passively receiving knowledge instilled into them. Students are learning how to think critically and make decisions wisely, to have a strong faith and freedom in thoughts. Above all, we inspire all students to follow their dreams and to pursue the beauty of life, to serve the Macao community with all their knowledge and talents.

Through years of unremitting efforts, the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Administration (in Chinese and Portuguese) programme and the Bachelor's Degree programme of Social Work have respectively passed the academic reviews conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation Centre (HEEC) of the Ministry of Education and the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) of Portugal and the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).

The Research Centre of Social Economic and Public Policy was established jointly from the former Social Economic Research Centre of the Macao Polytechnic University and the Human Resources Coordination Research Centre of the Macao Polytechnic University. The newly formed research centre conducts theoretical and practical research pertaining to Macao's economic, social, and public policy issues, providing consultancy advice for the SAR government to make informed decisions on critical issues of social development.

For over four hundred years, the Chinese and the expatriates have lived peacefully in Macao, where the eastern and western cultures have interacted and intermingled dynamically. Under this circumstance, the Research Centre of the Chinese and Western Cultures was established. It aims to trace the profound cultural history of Macao and exploit its splendid cultural heritage, committing itself to keep records of the cultural traditions of the teaching and research in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Amid the backdrop of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, our Faculty will leverage this unprecedented opportunity to develop innovative models in the domains of humanities and social sciences, in such areas as personnel training, academic research, decision-making consultation, etc., to ultimately build our Faculty into an innovation hub in the Macao SAR.
