Chinese II
This course, as a continuation of Listening and Speaking of Elementary Chinese I, aims to
further help students grasp the basic rules of Chinese listening and speaking by means of
various practices and explanations of the rules regarding pronunciation, syllables, listening
and speaking. Students are expected to complete more effectively communicative tasks
related to their daily life in standard Mandarin Chinese.
HIST1107 Chinese History I 3 45 hrs ---
This course consists of ancient Chinese history and early modern Chinese history. It
focuses on explaining important historical events and figures, while paying attention to
the holistic clues of the development of Chinese history and looking at the vicissitudes of
Chinese history from the global perspective.
HIST1108 Chinese History II 3 45 hrs HIST1107
This course, as a continuation of Chinese History I, consists of late modern Chinese history
and contemporary Chinese history. It focuses on explaining important historical events
and figures, while paying attention to the holistic clue of the development of Chinese
history and looking at the vicissitudes of Chinese history from the global perspective.
ENGL1111 English I* 3 45 hrs ---
This course aims to enhance students’ skills and competence in using English in general
situations. It cultivates students’ four basic language skills such as speaking, listening,
reading and writing, with substantial emphasis laid upon developing their oral
communication skills and writing proficiency.
ENGL1112 English II* 3 45 hrs ENGL1111
This course is a continuation of English I, aiming to further enhance students’ skills and
competence in using English in general situations. It will cultivate students’ four basic
language skills such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with substantial emphasis
laid upon developing their proficiency in reading and writing.
PORT1115 Portuguese I* 3 45 hrs ---
This course introduces the Portuguese language to students from four aspects: listening,
speaking, reading and writing. Particular emphasis is laid upon listening, writing and oral
expressions. The goal of the course is to build a good foundation for the future courses of
the Portuguese language.
PORT1116 Portuguese II* 3 45 hrs PORT1115
This course, as a continuation of Portuguese I, aims to further enhance students’
proficiency of the Portuguese language. They are expected to understand Portuguese
texts, use the language correctly and confidently, and know some Portuguese culture
through language learning.
