This talk investigates the integration of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) with
advanced modulation techniques, such as Index Modulation (IM) and Orthogonal Time
Frequency Space (OTFS) modulation, to enhance low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite
communications for future 6G systems in many aspects. Focusing on various designs in
IM schemes, our works explore how RIS flexibly improves spectral efficiency, energy
efficiency, and bit error rate (BER) performance even in complex wireless environments.
The presentation highlights the importance of RIS in optimizing signal propagation,
reducing interference, and improving coverage in satellite communications. Furthermore,
it discusses the need for advanced modulation schemes to address the growing demands
of devices in 6G wireless networks, emphasizing the complexity of signal processing in
LEO satellites systems and even the importance of physical layer security. By optimizing
index mapping principles and antenna combination selection algorithms, a balance
between performance improvement and complexity reduction can be achieved.
Theoretical analyses and simulations demonstrate performance improvements. Also, the
trade-offs between complexity and efficiency in these RIS-enabled IM schemes are
further discussed. The whole works better show how these integrated approaches can
provide a more reliable and efficient framework for LEO satellite communications,
paving the way for the next generation of wireless networks.
