                 EDUC3102    Teaching Fieldwork II             3       60 hrs    EDUC3101
                             Those who want to obtain the teacher's certificate for non-tertiary teachers recognized

                             by Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau have to take part in the field work in the
                             third  or  fourth  year  of  their  study  in  an  educational  institution  recognized  by  Macao
                             Education and Youth Affairs Bureau. The students are expected to apply the professional
                             knowledge and skills that they have learned to their field work, and combine theories
                             with practices in order to lay a good foundation for becoming a professional teacher of
                             Chinese language.

                 ENGL3117    Introduction to British Literature   2    30 hrs    ---
                             This course exposes students to selected literature from major periods and genres of
                             English literature from the earliest examples of literature in Britain to British writers in the
                             twentieth century. Genres such as prose, poetry, fiction and drama are included. The
                             students are expected to better understand and appreciate British literary works.
                 ENGL3118    Introduction to American Literature   2   30 hrs    ---
                             This course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of American literature
                             through close readings and discussions of major writers. It attempts to cover the most
                             representative  prose  and  poetry  writings  in  American  literary  history.  Students  are
                             required  to  read  these  literary  works  with  a  strong  historical  and  cultural  sensitivity;
                             meanwhile, much attention is paid to the “literariness”, that is, the theme, the structure,
                             the usage of symbols and images in the texts. Students are also encouraged to understand
                             the texts in light of literary theories in their analyses of the texts.
                 HIST3104    Society and Culture of Lingnan    2       30 hrs    ---

                             This  course  focuses  on  introducing  Lingnan  culture  from  the  following  aspects:  the
                             geological environment, historical origin, different schools and the influences upon the
                             society.
                 HIST3105    History of Cultural Exchange Between  2   30 hrs    ---
                             China and the West
                             This course systematically talks about the history of cultural exchanges between China

                             and  the  foreign  countries  from  Pre-Qin  period  to  the  Ming  and  Qing  Dynasties.  Rich
                             archaeological  data  and  sites  are  adopted  to  demonstrate  the  evolutional  traces  of
                             contact, penetration, exchange and creation of different ancient civilizations and their
                             colorful  connotations.  Students  are  expected  to  deepen  their  understanding  of  the
                             relationship between Chinese culture and other cultures so as to further enhance their
                             intercultural competence.
                 HIST3106    History of the Portuguese in the East   3   45 hrs   ---
                             This course aims to make students understand the history of the Portuguese presence in
                             the East between the sixteenth to the twentieth century and the importance of their
                             relations  and  interactions  with  people  there.  The  historical  and  cultural  evolution
                             concerned is also introduced.
