                             This course involves a series of topics relating to contemporary China, including Chinese

                             geography and living environment, history, culture and educational technology, economic
                             development and national power, various aspects of society and focal issues, political
                             system and  governmental operation, diplomatic relationships and national security. It
                             helps students understand and know contemporary China in a more comprehensive way.
                 HIST2105    American Society and Culture      2       30 hrs    ---
                             The course aims to enhance students’ understanding of American history and society,

                             American economic and political institutions, and the beliefs, values, codes of behavior,
                             and symbols that constitute American culture. With enhanced cross-cultural competence,
                             students are  expected to lay a solid foundation for their future  specialized  studies  in
                             translation.
                 PORT2119    Portuguese Listening and Speaking   2     30 hrs    ---
                             This course aims to train students’ listening and speaking abilities at an elementary level.

                             Students are expected to gradually develop their competence in making conversations
                             with daily Portuguese expressions.
                 PORT2120    Society  and  Culture  of  Lusophone  2   30 hrs    ---
                             Countries
                             This course familiarizes students with the social systems, the current situations, and the

                             geography of the Portuguese-speaking countries and regions. The students are expected
                             to deepen their understanding of the cultures of these countries and regions and the
                             contemporary life of the people there.
                 PSYC2100    Introduction to Psycology         3       45 hrs    ---
                             Psychology is the study of human behaviors, aiming to describe, interpret and attempt to

                             control  human  behaviors.  This  course  systematically  explores  the  main  theories  and
                             concepts of psychology, including senses and perception, cognition, learning, memories,
                             motivations,  emotions,  and  stresses  and  their  responses.  This  course  helps  students
                             better explain human behaviors, understand interpersonal relationships and solve related
                             problems. It also helps them better learn psychology related courses in the future.
                 SOCI2110    Introduction to Sociology         3       45 hrs    ---
                             Sociology is the study of social structures, systems, social relations, social problems and

                             values in an objective, systematic and multi-dimensional way. This course explores the
                             social phenomena in human communities. Human beings created the social systems and
                             behavioral modes, such as family, education, economy, politics and religion, however, at
                             the same time, they are also influenced by those social products. While briefly introducing
                             the research methodology of sociology, it discusses the interactive relationships among
                             human beings in their social life and how they are influenced by the social products.

                 CHIN3124    History of Chinese                2       30 hrs    ---
                             This course aims to familiarize students with the history of the Chinese language. They

                             are  expected  to  grasp  the  interplay  among  Chinese  characters,  written  language,
                             commonly used language and Chinese dialects, and the great changes in pronunciation,
                             grammar and vocabulary. At the same time, they will also be able to understand the
                             development of the Chinese language from something of little importance to a significant
                             part of modern linguistic research.
