ENERGY MANAGEMENT POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Energy Management Policy is to promote sustainable energy use, enhance overall energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions at Macao Polytechnic University (hereinafter referred to as ‘the University’). Effective energy management is vital for minimizing environmental impact, mitigating climate change, and fostering a healthier living environment. In alignment with the national and Macao SAR government’s "dual carbon" initiative, the University leverages its academic strengths and communal efforts to work towards the government’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. By adopting energy-saving practices and utilizing cleaner energy sources, the University aims to cultivate a culture of energy responsibility and environmental awareness among all university stakeholders.

POLICY STATEMENT

1.Sustainable energy consumption

  • Implement measures to reduce overall energy consumption across university operations.
  • Encourage the use of energy-efficient fixtures and appliances in campus buildings.
  • Prioritize the use of equipment powered by renewable energy to reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels while monitoring the usage of solar panels on campus.
  • Promote awareness and education about energy conservation among the university community.

2.Energy consumption tracking

  • Implement a tracking system to monitor energy consumption across university facilities.
  • Regularly review and improve campus energy usage by analyzing data to identify trends and guide decision-making.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of campus operational carbon emissions regularly, and adjust carbon reduction measures based on the results.

3.Electrical Equipment Efficiency Monitoring and Optimization

  • Gradually replace old and high-energy-consuming equipment on campus.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain equipment conditions to maintain operational efficiency. Air conditioning, lighting, and other equipment should be effectively managed and energy conserved.
  • Prioritize energy-efficient equipment when acquiring electrical devices.

APPLICABILITY

This policy applies to all university facilities, departments, individuals, and outsourced service providers and supply chains. It is expected that all service providers and supply chain partners will adhere to these principles and practices. By adopting this Energy Management Policy, the University affirms its commitment to sustainable energy practices, ensuring the responsible use and protection of energy resources for future generations.
