The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all individuals have equitable access to lifelong learning opportunities at Macao Polytechnic University (hereinafter referred to as ‘the University’). In alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality Education, which emphasises the importance of inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all, this policy affirms the University’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that accommodates diverse backgrounds and needs. Lifelong learning is essential for personal and professional development, enabling individuals to adapt to changing societal demands and contribute to sustainable development.
Lifelong learning is beneficial to enriching life and career. The University strives to foster a lifelong learning culture in the community and worldwide by offering programmes, workshops, seminars, online resources and other educational activities to all public learners. It is dedicated to providing accessible lifelong learning opportunities without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, disability, immigration status or gender. The University recognises that barriers to access can manifest in various forms and is committed to identifying and mitigating these barriers to promote an inclusive educational environment.
Equitable Access: The University shall ensure that all lifelong learning activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible, providing necessary assistance to disabled learners.
Accessibility Support: The University has access assistant officers to support individuals with disabilities and special needs, fostering their autonomy and independence in using barrier-free facilities and services.
Awareness and Training: Staff and faculty involved in the delivery of lifelong learning programmes shall receive training on inclusivity and accessibility practices to better support a diverse learner population.
Community Engagement: The University shall actively engage with the community and NGOs to understand the needs and to promote participation in lifelong learning activities.
Continuing Education Fund: The University supports the Continuing Education Development Programme launched by the Macao SAR Government, providing courses for which the Continuing Education Fund can cover tuition fees.
