SUSTAINABILITY POLICY | SUSTAINABILITY ENGAGEMENT

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Water Management Policy is to promote sustainable water use, ensure effective management of waste water, and protect water quality at Macao Polytechnic University (hereinafter referred to as ‘the University’). Effective water management is crucial for ensuring safe and accessible water for human’s health and wellbeing, as well as protecting the environment. By conserving water resources and minimizing waste, the University contributes to foster a culture of water conservation and responsible management among all university stakeholders.

POLICY STATEMENT

1.Sustainable Water Consumption:

Prioritize purchasing water-saving products whenever possible.
Encourage practices that minimize water waste.
Encourage the use of water-efficient fixtures and appliances in university buildings.
Promote awareness and education about water conservation among the university community.
Regularly review and update water management practices to incorporate new technologies and methods for efficient water use.

2.Water Consumption Tracking:

Implement a tracking system to monitor water consumption across university facilities.
Analyze data to identify trends and inform decision-making.
Regularly conduct maintenance and monitoring of the water supply infrastructure to promptly identify and address any leaks or inefficiencies.

3.Quality Water Supply:

Ensure that all water supplied for drinking and other uses meets or exceeds health and safety standards.
Regularly test water quality to ensure safety and compliance with applicable regulations.

4.Waste Water Management:

Ensure proper treatment and disposal of all waste water generated on campus.
Comply with Macao SAR Government’s regulations regarding waste water discharge.

5.Avoidance of Water Contamination:

Implement strict protocols for the disposal of hazardous materials, particularly in laboratories and research facilities, to prevent contamination of water sources.
Provide training for staff and students on the proper handling and disposal of hazardous substances.
Implement best management practices to protect water sources from potential contaminants.

APPLICABILITY

This policy applies to all university facilities, departments, individuals, and outsourced service providers and supply chains. It is expected that all service providers and supply chain partners will adhere to these principles and practices. By adopting this Water Management Policy, the University affirms its commitment to sustainable water practices, ensuring the responsible use and protection of water resources for future generations.
