This programme focuses on applied technology for big data processing and smart society; addresses a range of data and information-related phenomena over interdisciplinary settings; features in-depth discussion on data science, computer science, human-centred computing and the socio-technological environments to develop students’ multifaceted perspectives; and fosters pioneer researchers with expertise in cutting-edge computer applied technologies to contribute to IT innovations.

Note:In order to fulfill the graduation requirement, students must complete 180 credits and pass the defense of thesis.
1. Students are required to study the learning modules of the PhD in Computer Applied Technology at Macao Polytechnic University.
2. Students must follow the individual study plans set by Macao Polytechnic University and University of Bologna for their doctoral research topics and carry out relevant learning activities in information and communication technology and engineering-related fields.
In order to fulfill the graduation requirement, students must complete 30 credits and pass the defense of thesis.

Application Requirements

The following applicants may apply to the programme:

Students of the PhD in Computer Applied Technology at Macao Polytechnic University, the PhD in Automotive Engineering for Intelligent Mobility or the PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at University of Bologna who meet other application requirements set by the two universities.

Application

Applicants must send the following documents to registry@mpu.edu.mo within the application period. Please make sure items 1 to 5 being sent in ONE single PDF file.

  1. Curriculum vitae, which must include but not limited to the following personal information:

    • Name
    • Nationality
    • Number of Identity card or passport, issue country, place and date of issuing and validity date
    • Email address
    • Gender
    • Birth date
    • Photo
    • Address, country, city, state/region, postal code
    • Other contact (email address, mobile phone)
    • Highest academic qualification, country of course completion, conclusion date, final grade
  2. BSc and MSc diplomas and official transcripts
  3. Identity card or passport
  4. Motivation letter, written by the candidate
  5. The scores of the GRE General Test and TOEFL tests (not mandatory)
  6. Two recommendation letters (Template), which must be endorsed and sent by the recommenders to registry@mpu.edu.mo (Subject: Recommendation Letter), clearly saying the name of the applicant and the programme he/she is applying to.
Note 1:If the documents mentioned above are written in a foreign language other than Spanish, French, and English, it is mandatory to present a translation to Portuguese undertaken by a translator recognised by the Portuguese diplomatic representation. The submission of the authenticated original documents is mandatory to the applicants admitted who enroll and register and must be done before enrolling in the programme in order to complete their personal file.
Note 2:CV assessment includes an individual interview to all applicants, which can be done through Skype or similar means. Applicants are informed of the date and time of the interview by email. Whenever necessary, alternative contacts may be used (telephone and Skype).

Registration

Admitted applicants are required to complete the registration procedures of the University of Bologna and Macao Polytechnic University.

Dual PhD degree programme

Admitted applicants will have at least one-year study in University of Bologna. Having completed the programme and fulfilled the graduation requirements, the graduates will be awarded two doctoral degrees respectively by Macao Polytechnic University and University of Bologna.
