About the Faculty
The Faculty of Applied Sciences offers degree programmes from undergraduate to doctoral levels. Its current offerings include Bachelor of Science in Computing, Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor of Business Administration in Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations, Master of Science in Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT), PhD in Computer Applied Technology, PhD in Artificial Intelligence driven Drug Discovery and PhD in Educational Technology and Innovation. In addition, a doctoral degree programme in Information Science and Technology is offered jointly with the University of Coimbra. To embrace the new innovative technology era and to be in line with Macao’s policy as the platform for economic development between Chinese and Lusophone countries, the Faculty strives to cultivate computer and IT professionals in artificial intelligence and big data to meet the high demands in the society.
To achieve academic excellence, the Faculty is dedicated to both teaching and advancing research. Through the innovative and market-oriented undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, the Faculty aims at strengthening the students’ professional knowledge, enabling them to master their research skills, and inspiring them to reach their full potential, preparing them to become professionals in computing, information technology and sino-lusophone trade relations.
As a key development of the Faculty, the Bachelor of Science in Computing programme has produced a large number of qualified professionals in the field of information technology and other related industries for over 20 years. With its innovative teaching and focus on teaching process and outcomes, the programme was accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, and received the National Teaching Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, the establishment and development of joint international research laboratories ensure enhancement in teaching and research. The recent enactment of the Higher Education Law allows the Faculty to expand further to offer Master of Science in Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT), and PhD in Computer Applied Technology programmes, which will produce more high-level professionals in the research arena.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences has established collaborations with well-known international institutions in the Chinese mainland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy, Australia, etc. The collaborations include joint research projects, joint academic events, faculty and student exchange programmes.
