A team from MPU identified the prevalence, epidemiological, and molecular characteristics of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in MacauUnder the guidance of Associate Professor Li Kefeng, Xing Abao, a PhD student in AIDD at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Macao Polytechnic University, collaborated with Associate Professor Ye Qianhong and student Jiao Huining to publish a research paper titled "The Prevalence, Epidemiological, and Molecular Characterization of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Macau (2017-2022)" in the international microbiology journal Microorganisms. The study, led by Xing, aimed to construct an AI model for predicting the prevalence of MRSA in Macau, providing scientific support for the development of the broader healthcare industry in the region. |
MPU Badminton Team Wins Four Golds and One Silver in the 2024 Macao Open Badminton ChampionshipsCo-organised by the Badminton Federation of Macau and Wynn Macau, the 2024 Macao Open Badminton Championships was held successfully. The Macao Polytechnic University Badminton Team demonstrated outstanding individual strength as well as stable teamwork, winning the championships in Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles. They also won the first runner-up in Mixed Doubles, achieving great success. |
MPU, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sports organizes "Scientific Report on Advancement in the Diagnosis and Treatment of drug resistance in ovarian cancer"To accompany the development of biomedical technology and the nursing profession, the Faculty of Health Sciences and Sports of the Macao Polytechnic University organized a scientific report on "Advancements in Diagnosis and Treatment of Drug resistance in Ovarian Cancer", inviting Dr. Zou Dongling, Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Center/Organ Translational Research Laboratory at the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Chongqing University, as the guest speaker. The lecture attracted 160 students and faculty members from Macao Polytechnic University, and received a warm response. |
MPU Swimming Team won 31 Medals in the Macao University Student Swimming ChampionshipsThe 2023-2024 Macao University Student Swimming Championships, organised by the Macau Universitarian Sports Association, was successfully held recently. The Macao Polytechnic University Swimming Team fought hard in several individual races and relays with outstanding performance and impeccable teamwork, and eventually won a total of 31 medals, including 10 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze medals. This encouraging result demonstrated the team’s training efforts. |
MPU's 2024 Open Day showcased outstanding teaching and research achievements with enthusiastic responseThe “Macao Polytechnic University Open Day 2024” was held on 6 January and has showcased the characteristics of the University’s educational approach, information on degree programmes, achievements in teaching and research, social services, and achievements as a result of international cooperation. This was done through a series of activities such as degree programme seminars, guidance sessions for further studies, thematic exhibitions, campus tours, workshops, experiential sessions as well as exchange sessions with graduates. The Open Day has attracted nearly 3000 participants, including recent high school graduates, elites, students and parents, making a very lively event. |
MPU Holds Gold Medalist Athletes Sharing Session to Spread Positive EnergyMacao Polytechnic University held the "Gold Medal Athletes Sharing: From Macao Polytechnic University to World Champions" at the Lecture Theatre in Wui Chi Building on November 29th. The event brought together numerous gold medal-winning students and alumni from international competitions such as the Asian Games, World University Games, Student Games of the People’s Republic of China, and World Wushu Championships, to share their journeys towards achieving their dreams. The event attracted nearly 200 students and staff from MPU. |
Congratulations to MPU Student Wong Weng Ian for Winning the First Gold Medal in the University Division of the First Student (Youth) Games of the People’s Republic of ChinaOn 6th November, during the Wushu event taking place at the Guangxi Sports Center, Wong Weng Ian, a Bachelor of Physical Education student at Macao Polytechnic University, showcased her excellent skills in the women’s optional qiangshu competition. With a score of 9.663, she claimed the first gold medal for the Macao Wushu team and the second gold medal for the Macao delegation, bringing honour to both Macao and Macao Polytechnic University. Wong Weng Ian expressed her gratitude for the support from Macao Polytechnic University. |
Congratulations to MPU Student Fong Man Hou for Winning the Silver Medal of Karate Men’s Team Kata at the 19th Asian Games!Fong Man Hou, a student of the Bachelor of Physical Education Programme, won a silver medal for his outstanding performance in the Karate Men’s Team Kata event at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou on October 8th. This achievement brings more glory to Macao on the final day of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Professor Im Sio Kei, the Rector of Macao Polytechnic University, congratulated Fong Man Hou for his silver medal and commended him, as well as all the student and graduate athletes, for setting an excellent example by demonstrating a positive and courageous spirit in the Games. Congratulations to MPU Graduate Huang Junhua for Winning the Bronze medal in the Men’s Nanquan & Nangun All-Round at the 19th Asian GamesOn September 26, Mr. Huang Junhua, a graduate of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) with a Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education in 2021 and a Bachelor of Physical Education in 2017, won the bronze medal in the men's Nanquan & Nangun All-Round event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. He achieved a score of 19.463, bringing glory to Macao. Professor Im Sio Kei, the Rector of Macao Polytechnic University, congratulated Mr. Huang for his outstanding performance on the international stage and praised him for setting a good example by demonstrating the positive and competitive spirit of the MPU students. Congratulations to MPU Graduate Li Yi for Winning the Macao’s first gold medal in the Women’s Changquan at the 19th Asian GamesOn September 25, Ms. Li Yi, a graduate of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), won the gold medal in the women’s Changquan event with a score of 9.786, securing the first gold medal for the Macao Sports Delegation in this Asian Games in Hangzhou. Ms. Sou Cho Man, a student of MPU, also achieved the fourth place in this event with her outstanding performance. Both athletes brought glory to Macao, and Li Yi expressed gratitude for the support from her alma mater. MPU Holds 2023 Graduation Ceremony with Over 800 Graduates Embark on a New JourneyThe Macao Polytechnic University Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2022/2023 was held at 4:00 pm on May 31st at the university's multi-sport pavilion. The national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung at the graduation ceremony. More than 800 students from doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree programs graduated. At the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to social and educational development. Ms. Ao Ieong U, representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and chancellor of University Council, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, expressed that the SAR government will continue to support the university's commitment to the education policy of "dual emphasis on teaching and research", cultivate more outstanding talents for Macao and the country, and create better scientific research results. |

MPU Students Won One Gold, One Silver and Two Bronzes at the 8th World Junior Wushu ChampionshipsMacao Polytechnic University students Wong Weng Ian and Kuong Chi Hin represented the Macao SAR and competed at the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships (WJWC) held on 2-10 December 2022 in Indonesia. With their excellent technical performance, these two young athletes won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Wong Weng Ian triumphed in the Female Spear Event with the highest score of 9.169, and thus won a gold medal, the second gold for the Macao team at this championship. She also won two bronzes at Swords and Long Fist events. Kuong Chi Hin won a sliver for Macao in the Male Swords Event. |

MPI students experience the charm of traditional Chinese martial artsIn order to promote the Chinese traditional culture, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute has organised series of activities to enhance students’ Chinese traditional culture experience. Successful Academic Review for MPI’s Bachelor of Science programmes in Biomedical Technology (Medical Laboratory Technology & Pharmacy Technology)MPI’s Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Technology (Medical Laboratory Technology) and Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Technology (Pharmacy Technology) have successfully passed an academic review by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), Portugal. The two programmes are the first degree course in Macao to be academically accredited in the area of medical laboratory technology and pharmacy technology respectively. The A3ES review panel has fully affirmed the efforts and contributions made by faculty members, students and other stakeholders in the two biomedical technology programmes of MPI. It also strengthened the recognition of higher education in Macao. |

Nurturing World Champion Martial Arts Athletes, MPI’s Bachelor of Physical Education Successfully Accredited by HEEACTThe Bachelor of Physical Education of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT), being the first bachelor degree programme in Macao to undergo an academic review for such sports professionals. HEEACT, a renowned academic accreditation institution in Asia, is a member of the Asia Pacific Quality Network and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education. Announcing the review report on its website, HEEACT provides very positive comments on the programme and acknowledges the programme content, teaching quality, learning environment for students and the support mechanisms of teaching and learning at MPI. |
MPI’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme being the world’s first to receive its successful International Subject Review from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), UKThe internationally prominent Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), UK announced on its website on 7th March 2017 that MPI’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme (Undergraduate Nursing) meets all the standards and successfully achieved the International Subject Review conducted by QAA. The approach of judgment and review criteria were reported to be the same for some of the best UK universities such as the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. MPI has achieved “confidence” for the first internationally recognised institutional review in 2014, which was conducted by QAA in Macao. Similarly, MPI’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme has been the world’s first successful International Subject Review by QAA. |

MPI Alumna Hoi Long’s Historic Bronze Medal Win in the Aquathlon World Championships Brings Great Honour to MPI and MacaoMPI Alumna Hoi Long has won a bronze medal in the Aquathlon World Championships (swimming and running) in the ‘Elite Woman Category’ with a total time of 30 minutes 8 seconds, at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Grand Final and World Championships held in Chicago. It was the first time for Hoi Long to participate in this international competition and MPI expressed great appreciation and warmest congratulations on hearing of her outstanding achievement. |
MPI Commends and Celebrates Students and Alumni for their Outstanding Performances at Incheon Asian Games and Encourages them to Continue with their Excellent Run for MacaoTo commend and celebrate students and alumni for their outstanding performance at the 17th Incheon Asian Games 2014,the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organized a celebration gathering. The students and alumni of MPI participated in the Incheon Asian Games in sports including Wushu, Karate, Judo, Swimming, Triathlon, Athletics, Diving, and Road Cycling. Amongst others Jia Rui, an MPI alumnus, brought home a silver medal in the men’s Changquan final, Paula Cristina Pereira Carion, an MPI alumna, won a bronze medal in Women's Kumite +68 kg, Li Yi and Huang Junhua, students of MPI, respectively won the silver medals in the women’s Jianshu/Qiangshu all-round and the men’s Nanquan/Nangun all-round (martial arts events). |
MPI Students and Alumni Triumph at Incheon Asian GamesThe students and alumni of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) who have just competed at the 17th Asian Games currently held in Incheon, South Korea returned to Macao last night (25 September 2014) with their medals and outstanding accomplishments. An MPI delegation led by Vice President Professor Yin Lei received them at the airport and extended their heartfelt congratulations on their brilliant performances, filling the airport lobby with joy and tears. |
