To provide students with an understanding of different aspects of voice disorders.
Contents: Topics include anatomy and physiology of the voice mechanism, history and
development, classifications of voice pathology, the diagnostic voice evaluation,
instrumental measurement of voice, and evidence-based management of voice disorders.

STPP4102 Public Health and Preventive Medicine 2 30 hrs ---
To introduce students to the basics and applications of public health and preventive
medicine. Contents: Topics include history and concepts of public health and preventive
medicine, essential functions of public health, prevention and control of communicable
diseases and non-communicable diseases, crisis and risk management, food safety,
tobacco control, as well as health policy and planning, etc.
STPR4101 Clinical Practicum in Speech-Language 12 500 hrs STPR2102,

To provide students with experience in the clinical practice of speech-language pathology.
Contents: Under the supervision of clinical preceptors, students are required to complete
placements involving evaluation and treatment of speech and/or language disorders in
children and/or adults, etc.
STSW4102 Social Welfare Policy 3 45 hrs ---
This course seeks to introduce students to the major concepts and issues in social welfare
policy. Contents: The first part of the course covers a range of key concepts of social
welfare, such as welfare state, need, equality and citizenship, and an analytical framework
for social welfare policy. The second part examines the basic features of various welfare
provisions in Macao, namely education, health care, social security, rehabilitation, anti-
drug abuse, housing and social work services.
STTH4102 Independent Study of Speech- 9 135 hrs ---
Language Disorders
To equip students with the skills in writing a review article or conducting research in a
defined area of interest; to improve their understanding of the knowledge learned in the
curriculum; and to prepare students to pursue a more advanced degree. Contents:
Students are required to conduct a research project by completing the following steps:
formulating a research question, literature review, writing a research proposal, data
collection and analysis, and presentation of the findings. Students are required to submit
a thesis at the end of the course.
