Academic Seminar: Cross-Border Technology Transfer and Collaboration Mechanisms for Advancing Global MedTech Development

On April 22, 2025, the AIDD Center hosted an academic seminar titled “Building a Global MedTech Ecosystem: How Europe-Based Venture Builders Foster Cross-Border Collaboration”, featuring Mr. Marco Wai, Chief Representative of 8 Hours Ahead for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, as the guest speaker.

In his presentation, Mr. Wai systematically elaborated on the importance of international technology transfer and innovation system development. He introduced the typical structure of venture capital firms and highlighted the key characteristics of European and UK startups in terms of innovation and financing mechanisms. Mr. Wai further analyzed the differences between European and Chinese technology investment ecosystems, sharing case studies of how technological innovations have been successfully localized and transferred to emerging markets, particularly in the fields of MedTech, AI-powered healthcare solutions, and point-of-care diagnostics.

Professors and lecturers from the AIDD Center actively participated in the discussion, engaging with Mr. Wai on topics such as the mechanisms of technology transfer in the Hong Kong–Macau region, the role of venture capital in supporting scientific innovation, and the comparative analysis of research commercialization systems between China and Europe. The discussion also explored potential pathways for academic research incubation within the Greater Bay Area and future opportunities for international academic collaboration and technology transfer.

This seminar broadened the international perspective of the AIDD Center in the fields of scientific innovation and research commercialization, and laid a solid foundation for promoting the application of research outcomes and enhancing global collaboration.
