On 12th May 2025 at 11:00 a.m., the Centre for AI-driven Drug Discovery under the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Macao Polytechnic University invited Mr. Jonathan Chow, Senior Manager of Covar Pharmaceuticals, to deliver a seminar titled “Bridging the Gap from Drug Discovery to Product Development: Translating Academic Research into Industry Impact” at the N56 Room, Wu Chi Building.
Drawing on Covar Pharmaceuticals’ expertise in Canada and Hong Kong, Mr. Jonathan Chow provided an in-depth analysis of strategies for developing New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and generic pharmaceuticals. He addressed key topics such as regulatory pathway selection (e.g., 505b2, ANDA), applications of crystal engineering and solid-state pharmaceutics, and differentiated approaches for translating research into industry impact between startups and established pharmaceutical companies. As a leader in early-stage R&D, he also shared comprehensive project management insights spanning preclinical research to early clinical evaluation.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Henry Tong, Director of the Centre for AI-driven Drug Discovery, Faculty of Applied Sciences. The event fostered interdisciplinary dialogue between academia and industry, advancing local collaboration in biopharmaceutical research and technology commercialization.
