The 17th Macao-wide IT Competition Award Ceremony Held at Macao Polytechnic University

The award ceremony of the “17th Macao-wide IT Competition – 3D Programming and Artificial Intelligence Creation Contest,” organized by Macao Polytechnic University, co-organized by the International Gaming Standards Association (iGSA), and supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Postal and Telecommunications Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, was held at Macao Polytechnic University. This year’s competition was themed “Tackling Climate Change: Challenges and Innovation,” focusing on the multiple challenges faced by human society amid environmental crises such as extreme weather and global warming. The event attracted strong participation, with nearly 200 teams registering.

The award ceremony was officiated by guests including Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Macao Polytechnic University Benjamin Ng, Honorary Fellow of the Guangdong Society of Engineers Wan Kam Ming, Head of the IT Development Department of the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau Lei Kwong Leong, Acting Head of the IT and Technology Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau Leong Wing On, Principal of St. Joseph Diocesan College (5th School) Wong Kin Man, Vice Principal of Pui Ching Middle School Chan King Lim, and Vice Principal of St. Paul School Pang Pik Yan. This year introduced a new AI Creation category to encourage participants to use artificial intelligence technologies to create stories and images, showcasing the integration of technology and creativity. Teams were required to combine scientific knowledge, innovative technology, and creative expression to explore innovative ways to address climate change, build resilient communities, and seek sustainable environmental solutions—thereby raising public awareness of climate crises and environmental protection.

In his speech, Benjamin Ng stated that the Macao-wide IT Competition aims to inspire participants’ creativity and teamwork through creating computer animation, exploring social, cultural, and life issues. He added that Macao Polytechnic University’s Computing Programme assigned lecturers to provide relevant training for participants, helping to nurture interdisciplinary talents with integrated skills and promoting the development of Macao’s information technology sector in response to the rapid advancement of global technological innovation and artificial intelligence.

The First Prize in the 3D Programming category was awarded to students Cheng Si Ioi , Wong Ngai Cheng, and Lam Ka Man from the Affiliated School of the University of Macau, supervised by teacher Lei Sio Meng, for their work “Macao Youth and Climate Action: Journey of Sustainability and Fairness.” The First Prize in the AI Creation category went to Cheong Ngai Chong, Wong Chi Hang, and Chio Song Hap for their work “The Last Rainy Season.” The Second Prize in the 3D Programming category went to students Kou Chan Wai, Chan Iao In, and Chao Pou U from Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai, supervised by teacher Kan Kam Hou, for their work “Merciless Disaster, Compassionate Party.” The Most Creative Idea Prize went to students Cheung Him Iao, Lao Weng Lam, and Hong Kam Hei from Sacred Heart Canossian College, supervised by teacher Pang Chi Seng, for their piece “Wake-up Call from a Warming World.” The Future Stars Prize was given to students Lei Seng Pok, Cheong Kai Son, and Chan Chon Wa from Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College, supervised by teacher Che Meng U, for their work “Tracing Balance in Resources.” In the AI Creation category, the second prize was awarded to the team of Sun Yeok Fung, Chan Ngai Seng, and Kuo U Hin for their work “Dawn of Two Cities.” For the full list of award winners, please visit Macao Polytechnic University’s website: mpu.mo/pk3y.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of Macao Polytechnic University is actively innovating its undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes in information technology, comprehensively enhancing the teaching and research quality in artificial intelligence and its interdisciplinary applications to meet the needs of modern development. Through organizing innovation and technology competitions, it aims to foster students’ interest in IT, cultivate more technological innovators for Macao and the nation, and contribute to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s development into an “International Science and Technology Innovation Center.”
