                             Countries

The course aims to promote students’ understanding of various aspects of the major
English-Speaking countries (e.g. USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand), including
their geographies, languages, cultures, history, society, economy, politics, religions, and
codes of behavior. It also aims to provoke students’ cross-cultural thinking and enhance
their cross-cultural competence by encouraging students to reflect on the similarities and
differences between the society and culture of the English-Speaking countries and that of

                 ENGL1127 English Enhancement 2 30 hrs ---
The primary focus of this module is to increase students’ size of vocabulary and improve
their grammatical accuracy from lower intermediate (B1) to intermediate (B1, B2) level.
The module focuses on how words and grammar are used in context and how changes in
grammatical forms may change the meaning. Students should learn how to guess the
meaning of words from context and to see how parts of speech can affect the grammatical
structure of a sentence. Students not only learn words and different topics on grammar,
but also put what they have learned into practice.
