PORT3135 Portuguese III 2 30 hrs ---
This module is aimed at beginners who are learning Portuguese as an additional language,
with the aim of cultivating communicative skills in oral comprehension, oral expression,
reading comprehension, and written expression relative to the CEFR (Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages) A2 level.
PORT3136 Portuguese IV 2 30 hrs ---
This module aims to provide students with core language skills and enable them to
understand and apply grammar rules in different communicative environments while also
possessing a certain level of Portuguese listening and speaking ability.
TRAN3113 Translation Theories and Translation 3 45 hrs ---
Criticism
This module aims to familiarize students with major theoretical approaches to Translation
Studies in China and in the western world as well as their application in translation practice
and translation criticism. Students are expected to be able to adopt the translation
theories that they have learned to improve their translation practice and to analyse and
evaluate works of different genres (literary and non-literary).
TRAN3114 Translation for Commerce, Tourism 3 45 hrs ---
and MICE Industry
This module aims to cultivate students' translation skills in general business, particularly
in the tourism and exhibition industries. The materials used cover product and service
trade, as well as business areas such as tourism, hotel and exhibition management. The
module is mainly taught through case analyses and practical exercises, and selected topics
include business letters, contracts, trade documents, advertising materials, and corporate
reports etc.
TRAN3115 Literary Translation 3 45 hrs ---
The learning module consists of lectures on literary genres and terms as well as translation
theories and their application in translating literary texts. Students are expected to read
the assigned texts and their translations intensively and participate actively in class
discussions. The learning module focuses on translation applications and comparative
analyses of prose fiction, poetry and drama, and the problems intrinsic in their translation
into another language.
TRAN3116 Machine Translation Post-editing 3 45 hrs ---
This course aims to improve students’ translation quality and efficiency by providing them
with basic training in post-translation editing and project management. It introduces
students to post-translation editing, proofreading, desktop publishing, quality control, and
other concepts and skills in translation project management and localization.
