MPU Visits Universities in Beijing to Promote Collaboration and Innovation

To strengthen inter-university cooperation and foster academic exchange between Beijing and Macao, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) sent a delegation to visit Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Language and Culture University, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The warm welcome extended by Vice President Zhao Gang, Vice President Zhang Baojun, and Deputy Party Secretary Liu Peiyuan of the respective universities set the stage for fruitful discussions on new collaborative projects in discipline development, academic research, and student exchanges.

During the discussions, Vivian Lei, Vice-Rector of MPU, highlighted how, as a comprehensive public university, MPU has been instrumental in nurturing numerous patriotic talents. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the Motherland, the visit aimed to initiate innovative cooperation with these esteemed institutions, to support Macao’s “1+4” moderate diversification development strategy and contribute to the construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, harnessing the wisdom and power of higher education institutions to further the development of both the country and Macao.

Zhao Gang, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, emphasised the significance of exchange and cooperation between Beijing Foreign Studies University and MPU for the development of disciplines and talent cultivation in both institutions. He expressed confidence that future cooperation between the two universities will be even more extensive. The discussions delved into strengthening joint training programmes for translation students, promoting teacher and student exchanges, collaborating in international Chinese education, and advancing scientific research cooperation in artificial intelligence and language big data.

Zhang Baojun, Vice President of Beijing Language and Culture University, acknowledged the fruitful longstanding cooperation between the two universities. With a focus on the era of artificial intelligence, he emphasised the potential to elevate teaching and research to new heights, and the need for future collaboration to adapt to the changing times and jointly explore expanded cooperation in healthcare, brain science, and other fields, thereby forging new paths in discipline development and scientific research.

Liu Peiyuan, Deputy Party Secretary of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, expressed satisfaction with the significant results achieved through the cooperation between the two institutions in the field of visual arts, particularly in talent cultivation and scientific research. He expressed eagerness to further strengthen this cooperation to advance the cultivation of cultural and artistic talents in Macao. The MPU delegation was also invited to visit the Graduate Students’ Works Exhibition at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Other members of the MPU delegation included Zhang Yunfeng, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation; Joaquim Carvalho, Programme Coordinator of the PhD in Portuguese; and Tong Hoi Yee, Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Driven Drug Discovery.
