The 71st National Level Mandarin Proficiency Examiner Training and Evaluation Course organized by the Putonghua and Language Test Centre of the National Language Commission was held from 21st to 31st May. A delegation from the Faculty of Languages and Translation (FLT) of Macau Polytechnic University (MPU) went to Beijing to participate in this programme. All participants successfully passed the training course and its corresponding examinations, and obtained the National Level Mandarin Proficiency Examiner qualification awarded by the Centre. These newly appointed “national examiners” will strengthen Macau’s Mandarin examiner team, contributing to the promotion of Mandarin and the Putonghua Proficiency Test in Macau.

Over 100 trainees of Mandarin proficiency examiners took part in the training from various provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in Mainland China, 19 of them from Hong Kong and Macau. Through the training, the FLT members passed all the examinations and obtained the National Level Mandarin Proficiency Examiner qualification certificate. As the sole institution in Macau conducting Mandarin tests, MPU has collaborated with the Putonghua and Language Test Centre since 1998 to administer these tests, having trained many experienced national-level Mandarin examiners. These efforts have ensured the quality of Mandarin testing in Macau and have been well-received.

By December 2023, MPU, in collaboration with the National Language Work Commission, had organized over 30 Putonghua Proficiency Tests, with a total of 6,000 people taking the exam, which has also shown an upward trend year by year. MPU has been making continuous long-term efforts to encourage people from all sectors of Macau society to learn Mandarin, improve their Mandarin proficiency, and actively participate in Mandarin training and testing. Individuals from all backgrounds are welcome to join the Putonghua Proficiency Test or the Mandarin training services from MPU.
